Pathways from poor family relationships in adolescence to economic adversity in mid-adulthood
2017, Advances in Life Course ResearchCitation Excerpt :Social support can prevent childhood adversities from perpetuating into adulthood. Likewise, getting married or finding a partner has been seen as a turning point that can change a negative life course to a better track (Rönkä, Oravala, & Pulkkinen, 2002). However, we did not find poor adolescent family relationships to associate with economic adversity via a lack of intimate relationship in early adulthood, even though previous studies have suggested links between family relationships and subsequent social relations (e.g. marital status) (Merz & Jak, 2013) and also links between social relations and economic situation (Smock, 1993).
