Experiences of violence and deficits in academic achievement among urban primary school children in Jamaica
2009, Child Abuse and NeglectCitation Excerpt :The questionnaire was devised for this study. The concepts to be included in the questionnaire were derived from a variety of sources, including a previous study conducted with adolescent girls in Jamaica (Walker et al., 1998), a study conducted with primary school boys (Meeks Gardner, Powell, & Grantham-McGregor, 2001) and the international literature. In addition, eight discussion groups were conducted with groups of eight to ten primary school children to identify issues and experiences that were important to them and to receive their input on how best to phrase the questions so that they would be clearly understood.
