Late effecten van adjuvante chemotherapie voor borstkanker op het cognitief functioneren en de structuur van het brein

Samenvatting

Ieder jaar worden er in Nederland alleen al 13.000 vrouwen gediagnostiseerd met borstkanker (2011). De kans voor een Nederlandse vrouw om ooit tijdens haar leven borstkanker te krijgen is momenteel één op acht. Als aanvulling op operatieve behandeling en radiotherapie wordt naar schatting 60 procent van de patiënten behandeld met adjuvante chemotherapie die als doel heeft om nog niet zichtbare uitzaaiingen te bestrijden. Naast de bekende bijwerkingen van chemotherapie zoals misselijkheid, haaruitval en vermoeidheid is in de laatste tien jaar veel onderzoek gedaan naar de cognitieve bijwerkingen van chemotherapie.
