Kwaliteit van leven rondom wakkere hersentumorresecties

Samenvatting

Het zal duidelijk zijn dat voor veel patiënten een (wakkere) hersenoperatie voor een hersentumor een spannend en belastend vooruitzicht is. Met een wakkere tumorresectie kan zoveel mogelijk van de hersentumor verwijderd worden en kunnen tegelijkertijd belangrijke hersendelen gespaard blijven, wat een positief effect heeft op het functioneren en de kwaliteit van leven van de patiënt. Maar wat is de impact van zo’n wakkere tumorresectie op het leven van deze patiënten? Hoe ervaren patiënten deze ingreep en heeft deze benadering een positieve dan wel negatieve invloed op de kwaliteit van leven? Zijn er negatieve gevolgen van de ingreep op de langere termijn te verwachten? Een goede voorbereiding op de operatie lijkt hierin centraal te staan en is de sleutel tot een succesvolle ingreep.
