Samenvatting

De groep van prostaglandinesynthetaseremmers, beter bekend als ‘Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID’s) kan worden onderverdeeld in middelen die selectief het cyclo-oxygenase-2 remmen (COX-2-remmers, zoals celecoxib en etoricoxib) en middelen die naast het COX-2 ook in wisselende mate het COX-1 remmen. Deze laatste groep, met vertegenwoordigers als het naproxen en diclofenac, wordt ook wel aangeduid als de non-selectieve of klassieke NSAID’s. Van een aantal van de selectieve COX-2-remmers is aangetoond dat ze het risico op hart- en vaatziekten verhogen.
