14. Klinimetrie bij kinderen en adolescenten

Samenvatting

Meetinstrumenten kunnen worden gebruikt om de impact van de chronische pijn bij kinderen en jongeren in kaart te brengen, voor het opstellen van een behandelplan en om te beoordelen of de behandeling vooruitgang heeft geboekt. Het beoordelen van de pijnproblematiek vereist een multidimensionale benadering. Naast het in kaart brengen van de pijnintensiteit, wordt er gekeken naar de gevolgen op fysiek, psychisch en sociaal gebied. Voor het meten van de pijnintensiteit bestaan observatiemethoden en zelfrapportage. Fysiek functioneren kan worden getoetst door het meten van de ervaren beperkingen en de mate van lichamelijke activiteit. Emotioneel functioneren is een belangrijke prognostische factor. Bovendien hebben kinderen met chronische pijn meer last van depressieve en angstige gevoelens en negatieve gedachten over de pijn (catastroferen). Al deze aspecten hebben invloed op de manier hoe de jongeren met hun pijnklachten omgaan en uiteindelijk op de kwaliteit van leven. Deze sociale en psychische factoren worden gemeten met behulp van zelfrapportage. In dit hoofdstuk komt het meten van deze verschillende facetten aan bod.
