We have all seen the commercials. You know the ones. They tell us about the newest medication for depression, where people go from laying on the couch not noticing life happening around them to getting out and walking their dogs, enjoying hobbies, and hanging out with friends. They urge us to talk to the doctor and see how this particular medication can help. We have heard stories from friends or neighbors about a drug that has worked wonders for their child’s ADHD. We see news reports on the dangers of psychiatric medication in children, that it can cause suicidal thoughts and actions. We hear reports of doctors haphazardly prescribing medications to kids who do not need them or prescribing multiple medications that turn children into zombies. …
