In Protecting Children and Young People: Children and Organised Sport, Kate Alexander and Anne Stafford discuss the negative issues and potential risks involved with child participation in organized sports. While they analyze both the negative and positive aspects of this topic, they focus on the risks and potential harms that children face when participating in sports. This focus can be attributed to the lack of extensive knowledge on the subject. Alexander and Stafford’s research is based on the testimony of over 6,000 young people across the United Kingdom. These young people reflected on their positive and negative experiences when participating in organized sports. The goal of this book was to provide new information to athletic organizations and those involved in them about the potential harms and risks that children may encounter when participating in organized sports. It also attempts to provide information to keep children safer when participating in athletics.
