Samenvatting

Het is al jaren bekend dat het innemen van foliumzuur in de periode rond de conceptie de kans op het krijgen van een kind met een neurale buisdefect vermindert. In 1993 zijn aanbevelingen van de Geneeskundige Hoofdinspectie en de Gezondheidsraad verschenen. Vrouwen die een zwangerschap plannen wordt geadviseerd 0,5 mg foliumzuur per dag in te nemen vanaf 4 weken voor de conceptie tot en met 8 weken na de conceptie.
