Kan alopecia areata een beroepsziekte zijn? Een analyse naar aanleiding van een casus

SAMENVATTING

Achtergrond: Alopecia areata (AA) is een huidziekte die zelden wordt gezien in de bedrijfsgeneeskundige praktijk. In de literatuur ontbreekt informatie over de relatie tussen werkgerelateerde factoren en de ontwikkeling van AA.
Methoden: Wij presenteren een casus van een patiënt die AA ontwikkelde na een lange periode van stressvolle gebeurtenissen op het werk. Het verloop van haaruitval werd nauwlettend gevolgd over een periode van meerdere jaren.
Resultaten: Hoewel een stressreducerende interventie van een human resource manager plaatsvond, blijft onduidelijk of AA hierdoor uiteindelijk is verdwenen. Zes maanden na de interventie was in ieder geval sprake van een volledig normale haargroei en dat is tot heden zo gebleven. Conclusie: Werkgerelateerde stress kan een trigger zijn voor het ontwikkelen van AA. Meer aandacht voor stressvolle gebeurtenissen op het werk kan mogelijk voorkomen dat deze aandoening chronisch wordt.
