Samenvatting beleid

Als iemand met de klacht jeuk komt, zal de arts eerst proberen om een oorzaak te vinden voor de jeuk, zoals een interne aandoening, huidziekten of een erg droge huid, en deze gericht te behandelen. Krabben bij jeuk kan opnieuw jeuk veroorzaken. Lokale jeuk wordt het beste behandeld met lokale therapie zoals koelende middelen en bij een onderliggende inflammatoire huidaandoening corticosteroïden. Bij alle patiënten met gegeneraliseerde jeuk zijn maatregelen om irritatie en uitdroging van de huid te minimaliseren het belangrijkste. Gezien de relatieve veiligheid, lage kosten en ruime ervaring kunnen als medicatie het beste eerst orale antihistaminica worden geprobeerd met name bij urticaria, bij onvoldoende effect eventueel antidepressiva (SSRI’s). Verdere medicamenteuze behandeling is afhankelijk van de oorzaak van de jeuk. Als niet-medicamenteuze therapie kunnen bij chronische jeuk e.c.i. fototherapie en acupunctuur worden geprobeerd indien andere middelen niet voldoende helpen. Indien deze niet zijn genoemd op bovenstaande website zijn ze niet werkzaam of nog niet onderzocht.
