This book is a well-written account of the events, grief, burden, and anger that the author and his wife endured during the first 6 years following the premature birth of their son, Alex. Articles submitted to magazines had been rejected on the basis that Alex’s story would be too frightening for expectant parents to read. However, many young couples today fear having a disabled child, and fear starting a family. This book is important for the many questions it raises. Expectant parents need to know what can go wrong, and need to ask for explanations of every procedure employed in obstetric and neonatal care.
