Has Asperger Syndrome finally gone main stream? This is the question that popped into my mind when I learned that Picoult’s latest book, House Rules, features a main character, Jacob Hunt, who has Asperger Syndrome. Jacob’s perseveration is crime scene investigations. Jacob relishes in re-creating crime scenes. He is an avid listener of a police scanner. Jacob’s intense curiosity brings him to the attention of law enforcement when he rushes to a local crime scene where a partially clothed body is discovered. In a separate incident, Jacob’s social skills tutor is found murdered. The police begin to suspect Jacob may be a murderer. …
