Guiding toward growth is a first person narrative of how Merges first conceptualized the idea of developing social enjoyment groups and then implement his idea with children, teens, and young adults. The author’s basic premise is that enjoyment is a learned skill that can be taught. However, this basic premise is not well articulated and the chapter that describes enjoyment as a learned skill is focused more upon the author than the concept of enjoyment as a learned skill. …
