Samenvatting

De Mirena®-spiraal is een intra-uterien anticonceptiemiddel (‘spiraaltje’) dat gedurende 5 jaar ongeveer 20 mcg levonorgestrel per dag afgeeft. Door de hormonaal geïnduceerde endometriumatrofie is innesteling van een bevruchte eicel niet mogelijk. De effectiviteit als anticonceptivum is even goed als die van orale anticonceptiva (1).
