9. Is het mogelijk om subgroepen van patiënten met lage rugpijn te onderscheiden?

Inleiding

Er zijn zeer veel verschillende behandelingen beschikbaar voor patiënten met lage rugpijn. Zoals bleek in hoofdstuk 4 en 5 van dit boek zijn sommige behandelingen effectief gebleken in effectstudies, andere behandelingen niet. In het algemeen zijn de effecten van de beschikbare behandelingen niet erg groot en houden ze vaak slechts op de korte termijn stand. Indien patiënten langere tijd gevolgd worden, bijvoorbeeld tot twaalf maanden, zijn effecten meestal niet meer aantoonbaar. Er is geen enkele behandeling met grote, significante en consistente effecten voor patiënten met aspecifieke lage rugpijn.1
