Samenvatting

Acetylsalicylzuur behoort tot de prostaglandinesynthetaseremmers. Deze stoffen hebben een pijnstillend, koortswerend en ontstekingsremmend effect. Daarnaast heeft acetylsalicylzuur antitrombotische eigenschappen. Afhankelijk van de dosering staat een van deze werkingen op de voorgrond. Voor het antitrombotische effect is een lage dosering (tot 100 mg per dag) voldoende, terwijl voor ontstekingsremming veel hogere doses (3 tot 6 g per dag) nodig zijn. Voor het begrijpen hiervan is kennis van het werkingsmechanisme noodzakelijk.
