Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk worden de verdeling en de samenstelling besproken van lichaamsvloeistoffen over het intra- en extracellulaire volume en de verschillen in elektrolytenconcentratie. De begrippen osmolariteit, osmolaliteit en oncotische druk worden toegelicht. Ook komt aan de orde waarom patiënten gedurende een bepaalde periode voor de operatie nuchter gehouden moeten worden. Indien voor een operatie vocht- of elektrolytentekorten bestaan, dienen deze te worden aangevuld met kristalloïde of colloïdale vloeistoffen; de samenstelling en indicaties van deze vloeistoffen worden hierna besproken.
