6. Interoceptie: het lichaam van binnenuit

Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk bespreek ik het concept interoceptie: de waarneming van het lichaam van binnen uit. Neurowetenschappelijke en ontwikkelingstheorieën geven aan dat dit vermogen een rol speelt in de homeostase van het lichaam. Verstoringen van het interoceptief vermogen leiden tot alexithymie: het onvermogen de signalen van binnen uit adequaat te interpreteren en te symboliseren. Dit staat in verband met angststoornissen. Ten slotte besteed ik aandacht aan een aspect van het interoceptief vermogen dat weinig aandacht kreeg: het gevoel dat het lichaam eigen is.

Zoals in alle beschrijvingen van patiënten gaat het hier om een mozaïek van verschillende verhalen en levensgeschiedenissen om elke herkenbaarheid te voorkomen.
