Samenvatting

Uit dit hoofdstuk wordt duidelijk dat processen van globalisering en internationalisering vele voordelen kunnen hebben voor de menselijke gezondheid in het algemeen en voor de ergotherapie in het bijzonder, zoals het delen van onderzoek en het gebruikmaken van Europese fondsen om gezamenlijk ergotherapie te ontwikkelen in Centraal- en Oost-Europa. Ze herbergen echter ook enorme risico’s, bijvoorbeeld wanneer men uit een soort idealisme vrijwillig als ergotherapeut gaat ‘helpen’ in een Oost-Europees land, zonder kennis van het sociale en gezondheidsbeleid, terwijl men denkt dat daar geen ergotherapie is. Dit kan voor de ergotherapeuten ter plekke werkloosheid creëren en een lage status aan het beroep geven. Het zal uiteindelijk meer kwaad dan goed doen.Ook valt uit dit hoofdstuk op te maken dat het VN- en het EU-beleid met betrekking tot de rechten van de mens met een beperking invloed hebben gehad op de paradigmaverschuiving in de ergotherapie van patiënt naar cliënt naar burger (met rechten en verplichtingen). Verder valt te concluderen dat verbetering van de gezondheid in de wereld van vandaag een breed en complex scala van factoren en invloeden op de gezondheid, en multisectorale beleidsmaatregelen en interventies weerspiegelt. Health 2020 geeft deze realiteit weer door in de eerste plaats te investeren in de sociale determinanten van gezondheid, gezondheidsbevordering en ziektepreventie. Een doel van de ‘globale’ ergotherapeutische strategie is de kansen van globalisering en internationalisering te identificeren en optimaal te benutten, en de risico’s zo veel mogelijk te beperken.
