Samenvatting

Hoe sluit je goed aan bij cliënten en werk je flexibel met alle ACT-processen en -interventies? Een veelgehoorde vraag bij de auteurs van dit boek. Ze besloten een casusboek te schrijven om in de behoefte van hun cursisten te voorzien. Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft de ontwikkeling van Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), dat in vier decennia wereldwijd is uitgegroeid tot een behandelmethode die zich blijft vernieuwen. ACT wordt ingezet als transdiagnostische en evidence-based interventie. De relatie tussen ACT, FC en RFT wordt uitgelegd. Inmiddels is veel wetenschappelijke evidentie beschikbaar. Een kort overzicht van de literatuur hierover wordt gegeven. Effectiviteitsonderzoek toont aan dat ACT werkt. Dit boek maakt onderscheid tussen behandelingen waarin meer lineair met ACT gewerkt wordt en behandelingen waarin het proces meer dynamisch verloopt. Beide manieren van werken komen aan bod. De auteurs beschrijven behandelingen zoals deze zich daadwerkelijk in de praktijk hebben voltrokken – inclusief de verrassingen en onvolkomenheden.
