Samenvatting

In dit hoofdstuk introduceren we de meest voorkomende leiderschapstheorieën en -modellen. We schetsen een korte geschiedenis van het denken over leiderschap en management en nodigen jullie uit dat ook te doen. Het hoofdstuk neemt je stap voor stap mee in het verkennen van dit voor de verpleegkunde in Nederland tot voor kort onontgonnen thema. We behandelen de ‘great man theory’, ontstaan aan het begin van de vorige eeuw, tot aan hedendaagse trends zoals clinical leadership. Ons doel is een positief, scherp en genuanceerd beeld te schetsen van wat leiderschap is, maar vooral ook wat verpleegkundig leiderschap betekent voor de patiënt en zijn familie, je collega’s en andere professionals met wie je werkt en de zorgorganisatie waar je dagelijks in acteert. Uiteindelijk gaat het erom hoe jij, gegeven de context waarin je werkt, in staat bent om invloed uit te oefenen en richting te geven aan zorgbeleid dat waarde toevoegt voor patiënt, medewerker en organisatie.
