Samenvatting

De reacties op mijn artikel over de eigen identiteit van de psychotherapeut (Van Kalmthout, 2000) door Koerselman (2000) en Widdershoven (2000) zijn te typeren als reacties van respectievelijk een natuurwetenschapper en een geesteswetenschapper. Zij brengen de psychotherapie dan ook prompt onder in hun eigen domein. Een en ander roept de herinnering op aan het door C.P. Snow (1959) geïntroduceerde concept van ‘The Two Cultures’. Hij doelde daarmee op de cultuur van de natuurwetenschappers en, daartegenover, die van de ‘letterkundige intellectuelen’.
