9. Implantaten en hun succes na bestraling

Samenvatting

Patiënten met een intraorale tumor worden vaak behandeld met chirurgie, radiotherapie, chemotherapie of een combinatie van deze behandelmodaliteiten. De prothetische rehabilitatie van deze patiënten is vaak zeer uitdagend vanwege de veranderde anatomische situatie. Een implantaatgedragen constructie biedt beter houvast en steun voor de protheses en de onderliggende slijmvliezen of huid worden minder belast en geïrriteerd. De implantaatoverleving in bestraald bot is echter lager dan in niet-bestraald bot. De overweging om te implanteren in bestraald bot is afhankelijk van het verwachte voordeel van de implantaten, de potentiële morbiditeit of implantaatverlies en het succes op de korte en lange termijn.
