13. Iliotibiaal bandsyndroom (ITBS)

Samenvatting

Een 43-jarge man krijgt pijn aan de buitenzijde van zijn knie tijdens hardlopen. Bij een dergelijke klacht is de meest waarschijnlijke oorzaak een iliotibiaal bandsyndroom. Dit wordt bevestigd bij het klinisch onderzoek. Deze hardloopblessure komt veel voor bij hardlopers en bergwandelaars en kan zeer hardnekkig zijn als ze niet adequaat behandeld wordt. Dit hoofdstuk beschrijft een casus, de bevindingen bij onderzoek, de anatomie van de tractus iliotibialis, de oorzaak en de risicofactoren en ten slotte de behandeling van deze aandoening.

Een Z-plastiek is een operatieve methode om weefsel te verlengen. Hierbij wordt onder andere een Z-vormige incisie gemaakt.
