‘Ik wed dat ik het kan!’ – Bereik en effect van een televisieprogramma over stoppen met roken bij laag-, middelbaar en hoogopgeleide rokers

Samenvatting

Inleiding: Roken komt in Nederland vaker voor onder laag- en middelbaar opgeleiden dan onder hoogopgeleiden. Het entertainment-education televisieprogramma ‘Ik wed dat ik het kan!’ werd speciaal ontwikkeld om stoppen met roken te stimuleren onder laag- en middelbaar opgeleide rokers. Methode: Het effect van het televisieprogramma werd geëvalueerd met longitudinale data van het International Tobacco Control Policy Evaluation Project. Nederlandse rokers (n = 1.743) van 15 jaar en ouder vulden zowel voor als na de zeven afleveringen van ‘Ik wed dat ik het kan!’ in 2008 een vragenlijst in. Resultaten: Laagopgeleiden (OR = 1,55, p = 0,048) en middelbaar opgeleiden (OR = 1,99, p < 0,001) hadden significant vaker het televisieprogramma gezien dan hoogopgeleiden. Herinnering van het programma hing niet significant samen met eigen effectiviteit, stopintentie en stopsucces, maar wel met het doen van een stoppoging bij middelbaar opgeleiden (OR = 2,36, p < 0,001). Conclusie: Zowel het bereik van ‘Ik wed dat ik het kan!’ als het effect op stoppogingen was het grootst onder middelbaar opgeleiden. De entertainment-education strategie voor stoppen-met-rokentelevisieprogramma’s moet verder doorontwikkeld worden. Zo kan mogelijk een programma ontwikkeld worden dat positieve effecten heeft op de stopintentie, eigen effectiviteit, stoppogingen en het stopsucces van zowel laag- als middelbaar opgeleide rokers.
