IBCT-relatietherapie voor interculturele koppels: koppels helpen omgaan met culturele verschillen

Samenvatting

In deze multiple-casestudie wordt onderzoek gedaan naar IBCT-relatietherapie, een empirisch ondersteunde derde generatie gedragstherapie voor de behandeling van koppels. IBCT is ontwikkeld om koppels te helpen omgaan met verschillen en in deze studie kijken we naar de toepassing hiervan bij koppels met problemen als gevolg van zelfverklaarde verschillen in culturele identiteit, gewoontes of overtuigingen. De ervaringen van drie therapeuten die gebruik maken van IBCT tijdens de behandeling van interculturele koppels worden nader onderzocht. De deelnemende therapeuten hebben elk een casus aangedragen waarin IBCT is toegepast om een koppel te helpen omgaan met hun problemen door culturele verschillen. Deze beschrijvingen zijn verkregen via schriftelijke reacties op open vragen en zijn met een cross-case analyse onderzocht. De resultaten bestaan uit beschrijvingen van de verschillende stressoren bij de interculturele koppels, de visie van de therapeuten over de culturele verschillen, de veranderprocessen en -mechanismen tijdens de behandeling en de overeenkomsten en verschillen tussen de rapportages van de therapeuten. We hebben specifieke citaten met een belangrijk idee en/of opmerkelijke of nuttige informatie in dit artikel verwerkt. We sluiten af met aanbevelingen van de deelnemende therapeuten voor de behandeling van interculturele koppels in het algemeen, hun aanbevelingen voor de toepassing van IBCT met interculturele koppels en we doen suggesties voor toekomstig onderzoek.
