6. Hypersomnie

Samenvatting

Hypersomnie, ofwel overmatige slaperigheid overdag, is een klinisch symptoom dat veel hinder in het dagelijks leven met zich meebrengt. Een exacte bepaling van de prevalentie van dit symptoom is niet goed mogelijk, omdat er vele vormen en oorzaken van zijn. De zogenaamde centrale vormen van hypersomnie krijgen van oudsher de meeste aandacht, hoewel ze relatief weinig voorkomen. Tot deze vormen behoren narcolepsie type 1 en 2, idiopathische hypersomnie en periodieke hypersomnie (Kleine-Levin-syndroom). Hypersomnie ten gevolge van andere aandoeningen, zowel somatische als psychiatrische, wordt frequenter gezien. Dit hoofdstuk geeft een overzicht van de symptomen, differentiële diagnostiek en behandeling van deze verschillende vormen van hypersomnie, met aandacht voor de psychiatrische aspecten.
