Hot cognition en social vision: de interactie tussen sociaal-affectieve processen en inferentie in visuele waarneming

Samenvatting

Visuele waarneming is geen passief proces. De laatste jaren wordt steeds duidelijker dat ‘zien’ veel meer is dan het registreren van prikkels die via het netvlies binnenkomen. Het brein is voortdurend bezig visuele input te interpreteren, en zelfs actief te voorspellen. Kansrekening speelt hierbij een belangrijke rol: een zwart-wit vlekkenpatroon in een weiland is waarschijnlijk een koe; hetzelfde patroon in de huiskamer waarschijnlijk niet. Echter, interpretatieve processen worden niet alleen gestuurd door kansrekening. In een recente studie hebben wij laten zien dat ook stemming een rol speelt. In deze reviewga ik dieper in op de rol van zogenaamde top-downverwerking bij visuele waarneming, en de rol die sociaal-affectieve processen hierin mogelijk spelen.
