Hoofdstuk 11 Podotherapie als onderdeel van een multidisciplinair behandelteam

Samenvatting

De behandeling van voetproblemen ligt in Nederland in handen van de podotherapeut, in België is dat de gegradueerde podoloog. In Nederland is sinds 1982 de podotherapeut een wettelijk erkend paramedicus. In de wet big valt de podotherapeut onder het huidige artikel 34, die een titelbescherming waarborgt. Inmiddels zijn er ruim vierhonderd podotherapeuten opgeleid en werkzaam. In België zijn er ruim honderd gegradueerde podologen afgestudeerd, maar lang niet allen zijn werkzaam in dit beroep, vanwege het achterblijven van de wettelijke erkenning. De kennis over de podotherapie respectievelijk gegradueerde podologie en de werkzaamheden van de podotherapeut13 respectievelijk gegradueerde podoloog zijn bij veel collega-paramedici en bij medici nog steeds onbekend en daarom wellicht ook onbemind? Dit hoofdstuk heeft als doelstelling het informeren van collega-(para)medici over de inhoud, status en opleiding van het beroep van podotherapeut. Daartoe wordt stilgestaan bij de werkwijze van de podotherapeut, de specifieke aandachtsgebieden van de podotherapeut, de diabetische voet als voorbeeld van ‘evidence based practice’ en als terrein voor multidisciplinaire samenwerking en tot slot komen ook nog andere ‘voetenwerkers’ aan bod.
