Samenvatting

Hoofd-halskanker staat wereldwijd op de zesde plaats van meest voorkomende kwaadaardige tumoren. De behandeling bestaat voornamelijk uit chirurgie en/of radiotherapie, waarbij de radiotherapie eventueel aangevuld wordt met chemotherapie. Veelal gaan deze behandelingen gepaard met aanzienlijke morbiditeit en toxiciteit. De impact op de functionaliteit en cosmetiek in dit delicate gebied heeft doorgaans grote gevolgen voor de kwaliteit van leven. De complexe en multidisciplinaire behandeling van patiënten met hoofd-halskanker dient plaats te vinden in een erkend hoofd-hals oncologisch centrum.
