Het syndroom van Gilles de la Tourette: de rol van atypische antipsychotica in de behandeling

Abstract

Mensen met het syndroom van Gilles de la Tourette (gts) maken abrupte, ongewilde bewegingen en geluiden. Deze motore en vocale tics worden goed onderdrukt door haloperidol en pimozide, twee klassieke antipsychotica die forse motorische en subjectieve bijwerkingen hebben. Nieuwere, zogenaamde atypische antipsychotica hebben deze bijwerkingen minder. In dit artikel wordt eerst ingegaan op de kliniek van gts, vervolgens op het werkingsmechanisme van antipsychotica en ten slotte op de vraag of de atypische antipsychotica een goed alternatief zijn voor de klassieke neuroleptica bij de behandeling van gts.
