In levende lijve: het lichaam in de psychotherapie
Veel stoornissen in de psychiatrie hebben te maken met een beeld van het lichaam in de spiegel dat niet klopt met de realiteit van buitenaf – vanuit het derdepersoonsperspectief – gezien. In dit hoofdstuk bespreek ik hoe de relatie met het spiegelbeeld de interne relatie met het lichaam verandert en versmalt. De basis van het zelfgevoel is multisensorisch. De blik via de spiegel ondermijnt veel van de sensorische informatie die via andere bronnen komt. Het zelf-‘beeld’ berust dus niet op een beeld, maar op meerdere bronnen. Dit heeft implicaties voor de praktijk. Naast de ‘echte’ spiegel is er de symbolische, sociale en culturele spiegel van het ‘oog van de ander’. Aan de hand van gender bespreek ik hoe deze spiegeling invloed heeft op de ontwikkeling van de lichaamsbeleving.
