Het internet wordt, meer dan iedere andere mediavorm, overstelpt met seksueel expliciet materiaal. Anders dan seksueel materiaal in meer traditionele mediavormen is seksueel expliciet internetmateriaal (SEIM) op het internet gemakkelijk bereikbaar, betaalbaar (of zelfs gratis) en in anoniemiteit te consumeren.
