Onderzoek naar de samenhang tussen risicofactoren en recidive op verschillende leeftijden

samenvatting

In dit onderzoek is het (relatieve) belang van dynamische risicofactoren voor recidive op verschillende leeftijden tijdens de adolescentie onderzocht. Secundaire analyses zijn uitgevoerd op de gegevens van 1.396 Nederlandse en 13.613 Amerikaanse jongeren in de leeftijd van 12 tot 18 jaar. Bij deze jongeren werd de Washington State Juvenile Court Assessment ingevuld, waarmee risicofactoren uit verschillende domeinen zijn gemeten. De resultaten laten zien dat de impact van vrijwel alle risicofactoren op recidive sterk afneemt naarmate de leeftijd toeneemt. Zowel bij de Nederlandse als bij de Amerikaanse jongeren heeft op 12-jarige leeftijd het domein gezin de grootste impact, op 13-jarige leeftijd het domein vrienden en vanaf 14-jarige leeftijd de domeinen vrienden en school. De implicaties van deze resultaten voor de bestrijding van jeugdcriminaliteit worden bediscussieerd.
