Het belang van het oogonderzoek bij de pasgeborene

Wij beschrijven drie kinderen in de leeftijd van respectievelijk 1, 1,5 en 2,5 maand oud met congenitaal cataract of glaucoom. Op deze manier willen wij naast het algemeen oriënterend lichamelijk onderzoek van de pasgeborene het belang benadrukken van het oogonderzoek kort na de geboorte. Het oogonderzoek berust op de inspectie van het oog en daarnaast op de algemene ontwikkeling van het kind. Omdat het diagnosticeren van oogziekten bij pasgeborenen moeilijk is en die daardoor vaak gemist worden, moet het oogheelkundig onderzoek nauwkeurig uitgevoerd worden en dit is lastig bij de pasgeborene. Vroege detectie en behandeling zijn noodzakelijk om permanente visusschade te voorkomen.
Summary
We describe three infants at the age of respectively 1, 1.5 and 2.5 months with congenital cataract or glaucoma. By describing these three cases, we want to demonstrate the importance of thorough physical examination, including the eye, of the neonate shortly after birth. Examination of the eye should focus upon inspection but also upon the general development of the infant. Detection of eye disorders is very difficult and they are easy to miss, so the examination must be performed accurately and this is not easy in a newborn child. Early recognition and therefore early treatment by an eye specialist is necessary to prevent permanent vision impairment.
