5. Het behandelen van internetverslaving met cognitieve gedragstherapie

Een thematische analyse van therapeutervaringen

Samenvatting

In 2009 werd in Nederland een pilotprogramma gelanceerd voor de behandeling van internetverslaving. Het ging om een bestaand behandelprogramma (de Leefstijltraining), dat gebaseerd is op een combinatie van motiverende gespreksvoering en cognitieve gedragstherapie. In de huidige studie wordt het programma geëvalueerd met een kwalitatieve analyse van de ervaringen van vijf therapeuten die het programma toegepast hebben bij twaalf patiënten die zichzelf internetverslaafd vonden. De behandelaars rapporteren dat het programma, dat gewoonlijk gebruikt wordt voor de behandeling van middelen- en gokverslavingen, ook goed aansluit bij de problemen die deze ‘internetverslaafden’ hebben. De behandeling richtte zich vooral op het controleren en verminderen van het internetgebruik. Daarnaast werd er gefocust op het herkaderen van gedachten, de uitbreiding van (offline-)sociale contacten, het terugkrijgen van een dagelijkse structuur en het indelen van (vrije) tijd. Volgens de therapeuten werd er bij elk van de twaalf patiënten vooruitgang geboekt.
