Hervonden herinneringen: wat psychotherapeuten ook moeten weten

Samenvatting

In 1994 begonnen wij met het schrijven van kritische artikelen over hervonden herinneringen (Merckelbach & Wessel, 1994; Merckelbach, 1995; Crombag & Merckelbach, 1996; Wagenaar & Crombag, 1995). De opmaat voor deze artikelen was steeds dit scenario: een patiënt hervindt met behulp van psychotherapie herinneringen aan traumatische jeugdgebeurtenissen en doet dan aangifte van seksueel misbruik of mishandeling. Een juridisch conflict volgt waarin familieleden figureren als verdachten van ernstige delicten en psychotherapeuten als getuigen. Het waren deze potentieel juridische complicaties van hervonden herinneringen die ons bezighielden.
