Samenvatting

Aangeboren hartafwijkingen zijn met een prevalentie van 6–8 per 1.000 levendgeborenen de meest voorkomende foetale afwijkingen. Er bestaat een zeer grote variatie in hartafwijkingen, waardoor de herkenning bemoeilijkt wordt. Door elk vlak systematisch en in vaste volgorde te onderzoeken en te vergelijken met de kennis van de normale anatomie, kan het merendeel van de afwijkingen voor de geboorte herkend worden. Dit kan mortaliteit en morbiditeit voorkomen.
