Groepsprocessen bij jongeren: over pesten en ander probleemgedrag

Samenvatting

Dankzij longitudinale sociale-netwerkanalyse zijn onderzoekers steeds beter in staat om te bepalen waarom jongeren veel op elkaar lijken. Gelijkenis in gedrag kan het gevolg zijn van twee processen: selectie en invloed. In het eerste deel van dit artikel wordt een overzicht gegeven van onderzoek naar dynamiek in netwerk en gedrag. De bestudeerde netwerken gaan over positieve relaties (vriendschappen). In het tweede deel wordt ingegaan op negatieve relaties tussen jongeren: dader-slachtofferrelaties bij pesten. Hierbij wordt het KiVa antipestprogramma besproken. Uit de eerste beschrijvende resultaten blijkt dat pesten op KiVa-scholen afneemt met meer dan de helft. Op controlescholen neemt het pesten af met een derde. Ondanks deze afname mogen KiVa-scholen nu niet op hun lauweren gaan rusten. Op KiVa-scholen wordt nog steeds 13,5 procent van de leerlingen gepest. Onderzoek is nodig om inzicht te krijgen in gevallen waar het programma niet werkt. Dit kan leiden tot het opzetten van aanvullende interventies.
