Samenvatting

Kanker is een ziekte die vooral voorkomt op hogere leeftijd en het aantal ouderen met kanker zal door de vergrijzing alleen maar toenemen de komende jaren. Bij oudere patiënten doet kanker zich vaak voor in de context van andere verouderingskenmerken, zoals comorbiditeit, verminderd fysiek en cognitief functioneren en krimpen van het sociale netwerk. Deze factoren maken dat er grote verschillen zijn tussen patiënten, en dit moet meegenomen worden in de keuze voor oncologische behandelingen. Daarom wordt in dit hoofdstuk ingegaan op de behandeling van kanker in de context van fysiologische veroudering.
