5. Geïntegreerde aanpak van jonge kinderen met gedragsproblemen en hun ouders

Samenvatting

Tekorten in emotieregulatie vormen een van de belangrijke mechanismen voor de ontwikkeling van gedragsproblemen. Het is aanbevelenswaardig bij de hulpverlening zowel op de kinderen als op hun ouders in te zetten. Vooral bij jonge kinderen heeft het gezin namelijk een belangrijke rol in het aanleren van emotieregulatievaardigheden. Dit aanleren gebeurt via observatie van ouderlijk gedrag en emotiecoaching door ouders. Ook het emotionele klimaat in het gezin (o.a. de gehechtheidsrelatie) speelt hierbij een belangrijke rol. STOP4-7 is een behandelprogramma voor jonge kinderen met gedragsproblemen. In deze interventie wordt gewerkt met de kinderen, de ouders en de school. Het aanleren van emotieregulatie aan de kinderen en het stimuleren van emotiecoaching door ouders vormen belangrijke ingrediënten van dit programma. Zo zijn het leren herkennen en benoemen van emoties en vooral het leren hanteren van boosheid of agressie essentiële onderdelen van het aanbod.
