Opvoeding door aan drugs verslaafde ouders na residentiële ouder-kindbehandeling

Samenvatting

Alcohol- en drugsmisbruik vormen een bedreiging voor de ontwikkeling en opvoeding van kinderen van verslaafde ouders. Uithuisplaatsing komt dan ook vaak voor, maar is niet noodzakelijk de beste oplossing. Residentiële ouder-kindbehandeling biedt aan drugs verslaafde ouders de mogelijkheid om samen met hun kind behandeld te worden. Over deze behandelvorm rapporteren we hier op basis van een kleinschalig onderzoek bij 27 ouders in de Tipi. Dit is een residentieel programma voor aan drugs verslaafde ouders en hun kind(eren) verbonden aan drugvrije therapeutische gemeenschap De Kiem te Gent. Aan de hand van een combinatie van kwantitatieve en kwalitatieve onderzoeksmethoden onderzoeken we hoe het ouders en kinderen vergaat in een dergelijk programma, hoe hun kwaliteit van leven is na afloop en of dit de relatie tussen ouders en kinderen ten goede komt. De resultaten wijzen erop dat de ouder-kindrelatie bij ouders die dit programma minstens twee maanden volgen verbetert en dat ook hun algemene kwaliteit van leven hoger wordt ingeschat. Een ondersteunend sociaal netwerk en opvoedingsondersteuning blijken cruciaal voor het herstel en het opvoeden na afloop van de behandeling.
