9. Gedragstherapie bij adolescenten

Samenvatting

Adolescenten zijn geen kinderen meer en nog geen volwassenen. Zij kunnen specifieke problemen hebben en daarvoor is een specifieke benadering nodig. Hoewel dit alom onderkend wordt, is er toch weinig onderzoek specifiek gericht op adolescenten. Er is een aantal (niet op onderzoek gebaseerde) basisuitgangspunten te formuleren. De therapeut respecteert de toenemende autonomie van de adolescent. Dit wordt weerspiegeld in de manier van omgaan met de adolescent, het vaststellen van de behandeldoelen en het omgaan met therapie(on)trouw. Ook de keuze van technieken is van belang, met name die om de adolescent te helpen zich aan behandelafspraken te houden. Interventies via de computer of mobiele telefoon zullen vooral adolescenten aanspreken. Nieuwe ontwikkelingen op dit gebied zijn e-health interventies, waaronder Cognitive Bias Modification. Ouders worden altijd bij de behandeling betrokken, maar anders dan bij jongere kinderen, heeft de adolescent een belangrijke stem in de manier waarop dit gebeurt.
