Samenvatting

Gastro-oesofageale reflux (GORR) wordt gedefinieerd als de terugvloed van maaginhoud in de slokdarm, vaak met regurgitatie. Reflux is een normaal fysiologisch proces dat meerdere keren per dag optreedt bij gezonde kinderen van alle leeftijden, meestal na de maaltijd. Van gastro-oesofageale refluxziekte (GORZ, GOR mét klachten) wordt gesproken wanneer GOR leidt tot hinderlijke klachten met invloed op het dagelijks leven en/of complicaties zoals prikkelbaar gedrag, voedselweigering, groeivertraging, het opgeven van bloedsliertjes, slaapproblemen, luchtwegklachten of ‘apparent life-threatening events’.
