3. Fysieke activiteit en oefenen: definities, voordelen, risico’s en normen

Samenvatting

Het is essentieel dat zorgverleners grondige kennis en inzichten hebben van de interactie tussen fysieke activiteit en gezondheid. In deze is de rol van fysieke fitheid cruciaal. Dit vermogen valt of staat ongeacht leeftijd met de status of prestaties van de lichamelijke (grond)motorische (basis)eigenschappen. Deze eigenschappen staan in onze doelgroep echter bloot aan heel wat (deteriorerende) veranderingen en juist het aanpakken van deze wijzigingen kan als hoeksteen worden beschouwd van de fysiotherapie of kinesitherapie in de geriatrie. Dit moet het namelijk mogelijk maken de (on)mogelijkheden van het verouderend individu beter in te schatten en te ondervangen, evenals de rationale van verschillende oefenmodaliteiten en -doseringen beter te begrijpen. Alvorens de interactie activiteit-gezondheid te duiden en de veroudering van de grondmotorische eigenschappen grondig te bespreken, lijkt het a priori zinnig enige eenvormigheid na te streven in het lexicon dat wordt gehanteerd.
