Functionele Transcraniële Doppler Ultrasonografie

Samenvatting

Transcraniële Doppler (tcd) ultrasonografie is een niet-invasieve methode om de snelheid van het bloed in de basale cerebrale aders te bepalen. Hierbij wordt gebruikt gemaakt van ultrageluid, een energetische geluidsgolf met een frequentie van meer dan 20.000 Hz en dus boven het hoorbare menselijke bereik. Bij transcraniële ultrasonografie worden frequenties van 2 megahertz gebruikt. Op deze frequentiehoogte is het mogelijk door de intacte schedel heen te dringen, wat deze techniek de naam ‘transcranieel’ oplevert. Het Dopplereffect verwijst naar de verandering in de frequentie van een geluidsgolf veroorzaakt door de relatieve bewegingssnelheid tussen de geluidsbron en de geluidsontvanger.
