5. Functiestoornissen van het kaakgewricht

Samenvatting

Los van algemene gewrichtspathologieën, zoals osteoartrose, die zich ook in het kaakgewricht kunnen manifesteren, zijn functiestoornissen in het kaakgewricht vaak het gevolg van de specifieke morfologie van het gewricht. Het betreft dan afwijkingen in de positie of de vorm van de discus articularis of van het kaakkopje. Twee veel voorkomende afwijkingen in het kaakgewricht, die hierbij een rol spelen, zijn de voorwaarts verplaatste discus articularis en hypermobiliteit (overbeweeglijkheid) van het kaakkopje. Beide afwijkingen zullen in dit hoofdstuk besproken worden.
