Samenvatting

De Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) van Jon Kabat Zinn bestaat uit vijf formele mindfulnessoefeningen en één informele. Bij de formele oefeningen is het object van aandacht achtereenvolgens het lichaam, adem, zit, mindful bewegen en lopen – domeinen waarmee de fysiotherapeut goed bekend is. De informele toepassing vraagt de patiënt om ook aandacht voor dagelijkse routinebezigheden te hebben, zoals douchen of ontbijten. De formele mindfulnessoefeningen hebben diverse gunstige effecten voor chronische patiënten; de informele ook: de patiënt kan daardoor meer mindful met zijn beperkingen omgaan, waardoor hij meer kan of minder ongemak heeft. Dit hoofdstuk sluit dicht aan bij de werkwijze van Kabat-Zinn. Naast de oefeninstructie wordt ook de mentale attitude van ‘niet-streven’ en acceptatie benadrukt.
