Farmacotherapie bij ouderen

Met het ouder worden neemt het aantal chronische aandoeningen toe en daarmee de hoeveelheid geneesmiddelen. Daarom moet de huisarts goed letten op het medicatiepakket en de problemen die daaruit kunnen voortkomen. Er bestaat geen duidelijk verband tussen inadequaat voorschrijven en uitkomstmaten als kwaliteit van leven, morbiditeit en mortaliteit. Weliswaar zijn er diverse meetinstrumenten die problemen rond medicijngebruik meten, maar de uitkomsten daarvan laten zich moeilijk correleren met morbiditeit, mortaliteit en kwaliteit van leven.
Artsen moeten naast objectieve criteria voor de evaluatie van het medicatiepakket bij ouderen ook (meer) subjectieve criteria betrekken bij het opstellen van richtlijnen en behandelplannen van multimorbiditeit bij ouderen. Naast levensverwachting en baattijd van geneesmiddelen moet er dan ook aandacht zijn voor voorkeuren, wensen en omstandigheden van de patiënt. Wij pleiten ervoor dat het onderzoek kleinschaliger en meer beschrijvend van karakter wordt.
